Garcia Mundondo, Again Chedeme and Lovemore Mufamba want Chombo to use his powers to stop the car loan facility which will see the council’s top management getting a whopping $55,000 each to purchase personal cars.

“We seek your immediate intervention since the move is meant to enrich individuals at the expense of service delivery. We had opposed the move from the start but to our surprise council has since given a nod to the deal which we feel is not in the interest of residents,” wrote the councillors to Chombo.

Initially they also wanted to benefit from the loan, but were left out of the deal after it emerged that for them to get the money they have to seek ministerial approval.

The cars would be used for council business while their owners would enjoy 50 cents per km in addition to free fuel from the council. Masvingo Town Clerk Adolf Gusha refused to comment on the issue. It could not be established at the time of going to press whether Chombo had received the petition.
