Fireworks expected at MDC-T Bulawayo province meeting

The position of Gorden Moyo, chairman of the MDC-T Bulawayo province, is under threat after party activists in his Makokoba constituency passed a vote of no confidence against him.

Moyo, the MP for Makokoba, faces the axe both as legislator and chairman of the province. He has not been active in politics after he took a sabbatical to concentrate on his studies earlier this year.

Our correspondent Lionel Saungweme told us members of his constituency were livid on hearing reports of his links to the ‘renewal team’ and his alleged sabotage of party leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s rally in Bulawayo last month.

‘Party structures in Makokoba district met this week and resolved to pass a vote of no confidence against him. They have since sent their recommendations to the Bulawayo provincial leadership that is meeting for an urgent indaba tomorrow (Saturday),’ Saungweme said.

Already, the party has expelled three MPs from Bulawayo for their alleged role in the attempted boardroom coup on Tsvangirai last weekend. The MDC-T has made known its intention to recall all the eleven MPs who participated in the renewal team’s meeting, known as the Mandel meeting.

The Bulawayo MPs affected are Samuel Sipepa Nkomo (Lobengula), Bekithemba Nyathi (Pelandaba-Mpopoma) and Reggie Moyo (Luveve). Bulawayo is the only province where the MDC-T won all the 13 parliamentary seats on offer.

Others whose positions are on the firing line for being linked to the renewal camp are councillors Tamani Moyo and Collet Ndhlovu , district women’s chairperson Genifer Kaoma, committee member Thandiwe Moyo and district youth chairperson Sonny Poya.

Saungweme said there is a strong likelihood that all recommendations sent to the province from the districts will be followed through, resulting in the suspension of Moyo and the other party activists. – SW Radio Africa News
