Heplayed for the Young Warriors about six years ago and is doing wonders for Botswana’s Satmos FC, which ended the 2013/14 season as the league’s top scorer with 20 goals.
This rich vein of form has seen the Zimbabwean striker hit the radar of Durban-based Amazulu, who are seeking a top striker in preparation for next season.
Usuthu team manager Japhet Zwane said in a recent interview that his side was after the hot striker, confirming earlier rumours that the Zimbabwean could be following in Terrence Mandaza’s path to the South African topflight league via Botswana.
“We are definitely chasing the Zimbabwean player and I’m looking forward to have him in our side before we start next season,” said Zwane. “We have been following his performance for some time now and the way he played in Botswana in the past season has really impressed us. A few days ago, when we contacted him in Botswana, one of his friends told us that he was already in Zimbabwe, but we will not rest till we sign him.”
Zwane expressed belief that Kaunda was a complete striker, but liked more the fact that he banged goals for fun. “We can’t deny that he is a quality striker, but we are more interested in his scoring prowess. He also possesses a number of qualities that other players do not have, and that is a plus for him,” added the Amazulu official.
Kaunda’s side, Satmos, finished sixth on the Botswana league. The former Njube Sundowns player starred alongside Knowledge Musona in the national Under-17 and Under-20 sides.
