Prudence gets warm welcome in UK

Prudence Katomeni-Mbofana is the undisputed queen of Afro-Jazz in Zimbabwe. She has just returned from her UK tour where she performed at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards.

“It really gave me a chance to see how the UK audience would receive me and what a great night it was. I was thrilled with the reception I got and will definitely be having more shows in the UK,” she told The Zimbabwean on her return home this week.

The songbird has toured several European countries and says touring is a vital source of inspiration for musicians. “Music is dynamic. Musicians are inspired by artists from different countries, it changes or should I say it promotes creativity,” she said.

Prudence sees herself as a social commentator and tries to ensure that her music also carries a message of hope. Her career started two decades ago, when she featured as an actress in More Time. But singing was always her first love – she started singing in public at the age of eight. In her first audition for the More Time role, she was a curtain raiser for Albert Nyathi at Harare Gardens.

She is now working on her second album as well as some shows at home and abroad – balancing her career with being a wife and mother four children. .
