The women are demanding $9,000 in damages for their suffering at the hands of three police constables at Gezani police station two years ago, who allegedly exposed their buttocks following their arrest and tortured them.
They were later released without being charged. They were accused of spreading falsehoods in the communal areas after the three police officers heard them talking about a criminal suspect as they passed through a shopping centre.
Constables John Mandizvidza, Sam Nyamapasi and another identified only as Jonasi arrested them and took turns to beat them with sticks. According to the application the three women were ordered to sit in the sun, resulted in them sustaining blisters as a result of the heat.
The policemen also ordered them to run a marathon with 20 litres of water on their heads. The women say they were later paraded at a local business centre and ordered to sing songs that “gossip is not good”. The cops have already been convicted of assault and fined $150 each.
Several cases of police ill-treating suspects are pending in the courts.
