Tsvangirai fine and safe

MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora has dismissed reports that party leader Morgan Tsvangirai missed two consecutive party rallies due to a terminal illness. He had just had flu and was advised by his doctor to take a short break.

“Tsvangirai missed the Zimbabwe Grounds rally yesterday following doctors’ advice and failed to attend the other one held in Glen View recently due to other reasons not to do with the fever,” Mwonzora told The Zimbabwean, assuring that the former Prime Minister was fit as a fiddle and would see the new Zimbabwe.

The local media is awash with reports that President Robert Mugabe’s main political rival, Tsvangirai, was too ill to attend or address party rallies.

Tsvangirai has gone on Facebook to clarify his absence.

“I failed to attend the MDC Africa Day celebrations at Zimbabwe Grounds because of illness, as the doctor ordered me to take a rest. I might be home recuperating but my thoughts are with the people of Zimbabwe who continue to brave the long and torturous journey to true freedom and democracy,” said Tsvangirai.
