Epworth Residents have petitioned the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Local Government to investigate the state of affairs at the Epworth Local Board.

“There is gross mismanagement, abuse of collected revenue and despicable irregularities at the council,” reads part of the petition. Residents would also like the salary of the Chief Executive and other management members made public.

Residents continue to live in an informal settlement despite having paid land servicing and regularisation fees to the authority. There is also massive manipulation of house cards resulting in ownership wrangles.

Residents demand that council avail audited 2013 and 2014 council budgets for public scrutiny and produce the regulations and policies that allowed it to repossess some 250 residential stands for non-payment of rates in Glenwood, without taking the legal route.
