While life may go on as usual for a number of politicians, other people’s lives have never been the same, many children lost their parents and breadwinners. It is sad that 6 years after such heinous acts, the Government of the day has never made attempts to compensate these survivors of political violence nor ensure that their livelihoods are restored.
This commemoration also comes as the world celebrates the International Day in Support of victims of torture. It is painful to note that the victims who lost their lives in the chaotic election violence were subjected to torture and inhuman treatment. It is disappointing to realize that The National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) which is mandated by the Constitution to look into all these issues has not yet been constituted amid worries that the time that this commission is supposed to be operational is quickly running out.
Heal Zimbabwe as an organization that seeks to promote peaceful coexistences in local communities appeals to the Government for the full operationalisation of the NPRC in order for it to deal with past cases of impunity in the country and campaign for a Never Again stance on political violence.

It is sad indeed but sadder that we have yet to realize nothing may be achieved until we get an apolitical press and at least one human rights organization or lawyer.
just prior tpo that election on a farme next to the Harare South Counry Club, all villegaers, the elderly and babies were murdered in the night – eyes gouged out and filled with sadza including mouths, in the morning there were vote MDC banners hung on the fence of the club and farm.
Human Rights Groups said it was in retaliation – couldn’t say why it was necessary to retaliate on babies, opposition members ran to South Afica and the local opposition press promoted that they were being intimidated and had to flee the country, now according to this misinformed journsalist they need compensation for the murders they committed.
Why did it really hsppen, we all know it did?
There was an opposition pre election plan, to block the road at the bridge over the Msnyame river adjacent the Harare South Club Golf Course. A Pro opposition major was supposed to move into the managers house complete with a radio bunker.
whilst police and army tries to break out of Harare and past the bridge riots would be promoted in the northern suburbs of Harare, this would bring the UN/West in who would blame President Mugabe and eliminate him leaving the path open to take over.
Some one blew the whistle and the villagers were blame and the local message of not to speak about what you see was sent by those involved by removing eyes and filling mouths and eyes with sadza.
This was the retaliation!
Will any journalist show her is a[political and persue these murders ot will they continue covering them up with propaganda?
Lets really investigate the violence at that election!
Or will the weak kneed journalists simply say its retaliation.
From the same area a female member of the church there went to town in a pirate taxi because, she said she couldn’t support the opposition because of how they killed babies they took her off the bus, covered her with petrol and burnt the pregnant woman alive.
All in the press at the time but no comment from cowardly propaganda journalists.
The journalists just said opposition officials were victimized and some went to South Africa, no mention of the investigation into the murders of course.
One day there will come an honest journalist who does not approve of these kind of murders and hold the other pathetic propaganda journalists equally accountable.
This kind of comment may be moderated to remove truth – journalists don’t like facts and truth.
