Highlanders head coach Kelvin Kaindu said this week the Bulawayo giants would not stand in the way of any player who wants to leave for better opportunities elsewhere.

Bosso, unconvincing as they bid for their first league championship in eight years, are set to lose star players Kudakwashe Mahachi, Peter “Rio” Moyo and Milton Ncube to South African clubs.

However, their Zambian-born coach said this week that, much as the impact would be felt, the reigning Mbada Cup champions would do the same for any player who would get an opportunity to further their career in a different team and environment.

He also wished the trio a successful stay in the better-paying Absa Premiership, where Mahachi will be joining current league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, with Ncube set to start a new life with Ajax Cape Town and Moyo set to spice-up the Mpumalanga Black Aces midfield.

“We will miss the players, certainly, but it should also be remembered that Highlanders remains one of the best clubs in this country in terms of identifying and nurturing talent,” said the former Bosso striker.

“More youngsters will be promoted from the junior ranks to fill the vacant positions and I know they will grab the opportunity and use it to shine. There is no way we will use the departure of these three players as an excuse to perform badly in the league.”

Kaindu, who describe the leaving national team trio as “workaholics”, said he had no doubt that they would easily adjust to the South African league, where the game is played with the pace and flare they have gotten used to with the Bulawayo giants.

“It is without doubt that these three are some of the best players we have had in the Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League during the past few years and their departure should be viewed positively. It is a great achievement for both the club and the players as individuals.”

The former Zambian international said they would take each game as it came, as they still had Charles Sibanda and Obvious Zibande, who had scored five goals apiece and hoped the duo would continue with their devastating form.
