Katsande, Musona in Carling Cup call

Willard Katsande and Knowledge Musona will most certainly start South Africa’s upcoming Carling Black Label Cup.

As voting upped the heat for the only tournament where fans have a say, the duo still proved the fans’ favourite despite Musona’s injury concerns and continued uncertainty over the striker’s availability for the Amakhosi this season.

Musona’s representatives, ProSport International, said last week they were still looking to place the striker with a European club, throwing into doubt his stay at the Naturena giants. But Chiefs remain an option should he fail to make the grand leap.

The Warriors striker, who netted 16 times for Kaizer Chiefs in 25 starts during the 2013/14 season while on loan from German Bundesliga club, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, remained hopeful of a move back to Europe.

But that has not stopped Chiefs fans from including him as they cast their votes for their preferred starting eleven when the two giants of Soweto, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, do battle to determine the champions of the 2014 Carling Black Label Cup.

The latest voting update shows Kaizer Chiefs starting line-up including midfielder Katsande and striker Musona.

Should the target man get enough votes but fail to play in the tournament because he has to leave, this would be the second time. The 23-year-old missed the inaugural competition in 2011, when he left to join Hoffenheim. Pirates went onto win the CBL for two successive seasons before Chiefs broke the jinx last season, ironically one in which the Zimbabwean returned.

This year’s edition of the cup game is slated for its traditional venue – the FNB Stadium, on the afternoon July 26.
