“My contract with Wits has already lapsed, but luckily, I signed with an option to renew. At the moment, I am still on holiday, but the negotiations are still continuing with the club,” said Nengomasha, who has had a very successful career in South Africa, especially with the Amakhosi, where he won everything on offer on South African soil.
“There is still a big possibility that I might still be a Wits player come next season because I have really enjoyed my stay at that professionally-run club, which is now stronger and fighting for even bigger honours.”
Nengomasha refused a one-season contract he had been offered at Chiefs and joined The Students two seasons ago with fellow country-man and defender, Thomas Sweswe, who had just been released by the Amakhosi. They both had a good first season in which Wits ended third on the 16-team log, but luck changed for both last season, after departure of Clive Barker, who was replaced by Gavin Hunt as Wits coach.
The former Black Aces star is one of the Zimbabweans who have played in the Absa PSL for more than a decade and was included in the list of Chiefs legends two seasons ago, alongside Ebson Muguyo and current club owner, Kaizer Motaung. Other Zimbabwean players who are out of contracts at Wits are former Portsmouth striker Benjani Mwaruwari and Sweswe. Denver Mukamba and Onismor Bhasera are also uncertain to be kept in the side, as they played bit-part roles last season.
