No relegation fears yet: GSC

Gweru Sports Club, who have failed to find a winning formula since the beginning of the season, have allayed fears crippling their fans that the club could be relegated from the National Rugby League.

The side recorded one of their biggest defeats last week, when they were thumped 90-10 by Harare Sports Club.

In the previous week, the Zwelonke Mloiswa-coached outfit fell by a similar margin to Old Hararians. They now lie second from bottom on the nine-team NRL log, sparking fears this could be their last year in the topflight league.

Early this week, Mloiswa still put up a brave face and said his charges were still in the competition, confident they would soon start posting surprise wins in upcoming fixtures.

“It is not a secret that we have not been doing well. In our last fixture yes we were beaten in ways that post a gloomy picture for us, but everyone in the club now feels it’s time to turn tables,” said Mloiswa, who once featured in the national sevens rugby team, the Cheetahs.

The towering mentor drew confidence from the fact that most of their coming fixtures would be played at their favourite hunting ground – the Gweru Sports Club.

“We have so far played all the teams who are doing well, mostly in Harare, but starting this week, we will be home in most of our fixtures and that should see us rediscover the winning formula and secure our position in the NRL for next season,” he said.
