Better known as Sekuru Berv, the youngster has always loved to sing like Oliver Mtukudzi and Akon and dreams of continuing their musical legacy. “I have decided to take a different route by singing chimurenga songs, which is not common as most young singers want to do hip hop or Jamaican music,” he told The Zimbabwean.
He has been surprised at the positive response he has received – including compliments from people saying he reminds them of the master of chimurenga himself, Thomas “Tafirenyika” Mapfumo, who pioneered this type of music in early 1980s.
He composed all eight tracks on the album, produced by Multiflex Entertainment, and was the leading vocalist with Mitcheline Maswera as backing vocalist.
Sekuru Berv started music at the age of 12. Soon after completing his education he released his first single Tisu Takadziya in 2008, followed by Mharapatsetsetse in 2010, Don’t Give Me Bp in 2011 -which was his first collaboration with Marve and Nigerian Dj Captain Blue.
In 2012 he released High Level Like This, which received much air play and was awarded an accolade on Reverbnation for topping downloads in South Africa. He has also released a video and several singles. He has worked with Tk Hollun from Zimbabwe, Dj Blue from Nigeria and Dj Sbo from SA.
