One of the aspiring chiefs, Chimene Budzi, approached the high court to block the installation of Dzivake Budzi as Chief Budzi. He cited Chombo as the first respondent, Masvingo provincial administrator Felix Chikovo as the second and Bikita district administrator Innocent Matingwina as the third.

Chombo and his delegation, which comprised Masvingo Provincial Affairs Minister Kudakwashe Basikiti and Chikovo among others, had to cancel their journey after being served with court papers on the eve of the installation.

High Court judge Clever Bere granted Budzi's application in chambers . Villagers and dignitaries gathered to witness the ceremony on July 4 were shocked when papers were delivered to the respondents.

Chikovo confirmed the development adding that they had to cancel the event because of the high court application. "We will only install the chief when this legal battle is over," he said.

According to elders in the Budzi community there are four houses that are eligible for the chieftainship . Chimenene Budzi claims that he is the rightful person to take over the crown while Dzivake also claims the same.

Nhasi Zvirimo, who was Chief Budzi, died in 2005 and since then Dzivake has been acting.

Chombo and the other respondents were yet to file their response at the time of going to print.
