Barker chases Jaure

Pretoria University coach Steve Barker confirmed this week he was close to signing Zimbabwean defender Patson Jaure.

Barker expressed his belief that the Dynamos defender would add grit to his side’s backline, as the Pretoria side prepares to launch a serious challenge for honours in the Absa Premiership this season.

The team is desperately fighting to plug loopholes that remained glaring in their defence for the better part of last season and have a few weeks to do that before the new season begins early next month.

“I have been looking for a player like Jaure for a long time now. The Zimbabwean defender impressed me when he led his national team in January in the CHAN tournament with great displays. Since then, I have been longing to have him in my team,” said the coach.

“What I can say is that the Warriors defender will be playing for AmaTuks next season as right now we are at an advanced stage to finalise the deal. The management is busy talking to all the parties involved, but at the moment he is back in Zimbabwe.”

With his talent, the Dynamos defender would fit easily into the AmaTuks defence and provide cover to another former Dynamos player, Washington Arubi, who is the side’s first choice goalkeeper.

In the beginning of the year Jaure was linked with a move to SuperSport United, but that deal did not happen, as the former league champions eventually opted for his teammate and goalkeeper, George Chigova, who signed for the next three seasons.
