Have donors poured money into Renewal Team?

EDITOR - - I am saddened by an article in a local newspaper in which Elton Mangoma makes some astonishing revelations. Addressing MDC Renewal Team followers at a meeting in Chinhoyi recently, the former MDC-T deputy treasurer-general was reported as saying Team had secured enough funding to support its activities and provide school fees for children of MDC-T activists who succumbed to the violent campaigns unleashed by Zanu (PF) since 1999.

The Renewal Team's interim chairman Sam Sipepa is also on record as saying that his party has no financial problems at all. One wonders whether donors have poured money into the Renewal Team in the short space of time that they exercised their democratic right to dissociate themselves from Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC?

It has been said before that Biti and Mangona starved the party's election campaign in 2013, an allegation they have denied after reconciling receipts against expenditure, but with this revelation, the claim starts to make sense. Donor money could have been reserved to finance Biti's project, which we were made aware of before the elections from posts made on Facebook – especially by the Welshman Ncube led MDC's followers. Add to the equation that Roy Bennett, who raised funds for the party, is reportedly on the Renewal Team.

It is true that children who lost their parents in the struggle for democracy since the formation of the MDC in 1999 need assistance, but for Mangoma to use that money as a campaign tool is absolute corruption. The MDC-T is better advised to compile a list of all surviving victims of the Mugabe repression and the children orphaned through the efforts to bring democracy, and demand that Mangoma pays out the money for that purpose.
