This is the first time the three instrumentalists have met on one project by a different musician who does not belong to their respective groups.
Gomba used to play the drums at Alick Macheso’s Orchestra Mberikwazvo before he left the group with the likes of Franco “Slomo” Dhaka and Noel Nyazanda to form Orchestra Kwazvose, while Spencer plays for Peter Moyo’s Utakataka Express, the outfit he inherited from his late father Tongai.
Nodza plays the rhythm guitar at Sulumani Chimbetu’s Orchestra Dendera Kings, where he is one of the longest serving band members.
With Majeke himself on the lead guitar and vocals, it remains to be seen what this gelling and blend of artists who play different styles of music will produce but the experiment, according to Majeke, is nothing short of a “bomb”.
“I have great respect for these guys who are seasoned artists and we are also friends,” explained Majeke. He said they readily obliged when he asked them to come and play for him.
“They immediately understood that I wanted to take my music to another level. One would wonder what fortunes I paid them, but the fact is that not much was involved in convincing them to come and play on this album, whose title I am yet to decide on,” he said.
That is not all – another big surprise is that Majeke is also working with veteran music producer, Bothwell Nyamhondera, whose Midas touch is expected to make the album a hit.
The Chitungwiza-bred artist becomes one of the first few upcoming musicians whose projects are being produced by Nyamhondera since his return from the United Kingdom a couple of months ago.
“I also take my hat off for Nyamhondera who has produced many of the established musicians in Zimbabwe including Alick Macheso and others. I am sure that his hand will lend great listening appeal to this album,” said Majeke.
Confirming the latest developments going on the album, Majeke recently posted on his facebook page, saying: “Sungura Lovers……We are almost done in Studio (Diamond studio). So far Spencer Khumbulani, Knowledge Nkoma,Obert Gomba, Bothwell Nyamhondera, Fedius Nyika have featured.”
Majeke last released the album “Masango” while some of his songs that have made an impact on the airwaves include “Fiona”, “Chibhebhi” and “Landlord”.
Before forming his own group, Takashinga Stars, he used to play the keyboards for respected gospel musician Baba Mechanic Manyeruke, apart from playing for various other artistes like Mambokadzi as a session musician.
In 2009, he joined leading sound and instruments dealer HardSound Pro-Audio as chief instrumentalist.Post published in: Entertainment
