Supa Challenge headlines Breeders Stakes

Kirk Swanson’s two-year-old winner of the Juvenile Champions Stakes - Supa Challenge - will headline the field for the 1,200 metre Thoroughbred Breeders’ Champaigne Stakes.

The race is set for Borrowdale Park on Sunday and the colt leads a small field of three fillies, three colts and a gelden, in a field that has brought together seven horses – all bred in Zimbabwe.

At 1,200 metres, this is a very short race in which the draw does not help much, and Supa Challenge’s draw of six should not be a disadvantage. Picaddily, who came second in the Juvenile Stakes, is also in the line up to challenge Supa Challenge for the title that has $ 9,000 in stake money.

Picaddily, from Alyson Wright, will have stable companion Tallie Two to accompany him, as they seek to take the title home. Amy Bronkhorst’s Young Antwun, who gave Supa Challenge a good run in the Champion Juvenile Stakes before settling for third place, is also in the running.

This is the only horse nominated for the course by Bronkhorst, who is enjoying a successful maiden training season. Lisa Harris takes the advantage of Swanson and Bronkhorst’ small fielding and sends out almost half of the field with three nominations in the form of MacFly, Mica Point and Hollywood Babe.

The other four horses will be carrying 58 Kgs, while the three fillies – Hollywood Babe, Picadilly and Tallie Two – are on 55.5 Kgs.

The Thoroughbred Breeders’ Champaigne Stakes the biggest race on the day which has seven races carded for the day with a total of 133 horse nominated for the races. One of them is the Merit Rated 65 Handicap, which has the highest number of horses with 30 of the best assembled for the 1,200 metre race.
