Zim, Zambia sign bodybuilding agreement

Local bodybuilding is set for exciting times following a partnership agreement recently struck between the Zimbabwe Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation and the Zambian Bodybuilding Association.

The agreement will allow Zimbabwe bodybuilders to compete in any contest in Zambia, with the same happening to Zambian bodybuilders who can take part in any event outside of the Mr Zimbabwe.

The Miss and Mr Zimbabwe competitions are reserved for Zimbabweans only. Foreigners who take part in the competition cannot win the ultimate prize.

“What we are trying to do is to open up competition between the two countries so that we have regular competitions for our bodybuilders,” said the president of the Zambian Association, Daniel Mukandawire.

He said he was looking forward to the introduction of six competitions in a year involving the top bodybuilders from the two countries with both countries sharing the hosting rights. Mukandawire was in Zimbabwe for the Mr Ironman competition at the Oddysey in Kadoma, won by Isaac ‘Sugar Sugar; Kamuchenga, ahead of defending champion Vincent Kandiero.

Already, Zimbabwe plays host to a number of high-profile events which – apart from the Mr Ironman and the Mr Zimbabwe, also include the Mr Musclemania, won by Botswana bodybuilder, Champion Chienderamwano last year.

Thousands attended the competition, as bodybuilding remains one of the sporting disciplines that do not suffer from sponsorship problems.
