The executive, led by Macdonald Muswere, wrote to Dumiso Dabengwa informing him about its position and the reasons for quitting Zapu.
The provincial youth chairperson and national executive, Tichaona Sithole, accused Dabengwa of suspending those who differed with him on any opinion, resulting in party members being afraid of expressing their views.
It is understood that Sithole has since joined Zanu (PF) and has also advised Dabengwa to rejoin the party.
“We have people who have been suspended from the party for no apparent reason and we are saying it’s time for us to leave the party,” said the executive in the letter. “You are running the party as if it were your personal property and we feel we cannot continue working with you. We are therefore quitting our posts with immediate effect.”
“I have joined Zanu (PF) because Zapu has no direction,”said Sithole. “All decisions in the party are made by Dabengwa alone without consulting other party members, hence we are saying enough is enough.
“I am calling upon Dabengwa to swallow this pride and come back to Zanu (PF) because Zapu will not get anywhere.”
Sithole said they had on several occasions tried to advise Dabengwa on how best he could lead the party, but all in vain.
No comment could be obtained from Dabengwa at the time of going to print.Post published in: News
