The two state security agents driving in a green Nissan double twin cab truck Registration number ABI 3074, approached Makonese this morning at TM Supermarket, Marondera, and asked for his name, workplace and home area among other details.
After Makonese identified himself as James, they indicated to him that he was lying and had his identification details.
“Tirimo munyika tichasangana ‘we are in the country and will surely meet’, said the CIO before living. One of the operatives was familiar to Makonese.
Makonese, MDC-T Mashonaland East Provincial security officer, is a survivor of several Zanu (PF) and CIO violence. He has been arrested several times on trumped up political charges.
On July 15, 2013, Makonese staved off violence perpetrated by Zanu (PF) youths who wanted to destroy MDC-T Provincial offices in the town.
President Robert Mugabe was addressing a party rally at Rudhaka Stadium when the rowdy youth threatened to stone the offices.
A report was made at Dombotombo Police Station but no arrests were made despite some suspects having been identified.
After Makonese had insisted that justice be done, the case was transferred to the Murewa Magistrates Court to ‘disable’ him from attending.
Due to fear for his life and financial constraints, Makonese recently failed to attend the courts and a warrant of arrest has since been issued against him.
