Mugabe’s legacy, will, unfortunately be remembered for what he ‘did not do’ rather than what ‘he did right’. Mugabe will always be linked with corruption, nepotism and ‘ineptocracy’ rather than the positive attempts to garner support for ‘His Zimbabwe’! Because he has always conducted a defensive policy towards his rule, his detractors have learned to focus on all the wrongs, and not the possible rights! Had Mugabe, lead from the front, foregoing the trappings of an elitest Presidency, and donned the cap of selflessness of Mahatma Ghandi or the charisma of Nelson Mandela, he may have left a legacy on which his family would be cherished. 3.5 Million Zimbabweans living in the Diaspora, can only atest to his autocracy and greed. Perhaps his detractors may have been less vocal had he been willing to be a man of the people. His children will never be able to govern, as is evident from what is now known about his son, and when Grace is presented as a possible candidate, she would illicit far more detractors, than admirers.
