Zanu (PF) youths converged in Harare for the party’s elective conference, expecting the usual binge that is associated with the party’s get-togethers. To their horror, the 3000 delegates discovered there was no food. In contrast to the $3M feast held in Chinhoyi, last year in December and that unforgettable $1M birthday bash in February, on the first night, the youths went to bed on empty stomachs after acting secretary for finance, Didymus Mutasa failed to raise the necessary funds. Zanu (PF) arranged payment for the venue at the last moment before the conference began. A seething Mugabe blamed the poor planning of the conference on senior party members who were more focused on personal agendas.
‘People are just concentrating on power. Zvimisangano zvisina basa (people holding secret meetings)… I cannot have a central committee or even a politburo which is inept. No!’
