The celebrations to be conducted under the theme ‘Towards National Convergence, Organise People for Victory’ would draw the audience from across the country.

Douglas Mwonzora, MDC-T spokesperson, said Tsvangirai will take the opportunity to officially launch the party’s national convergence and thrust.

“The party convergence and thrust would encourage Zimbabweans despite their political differences to come together and identify national pressing issues,” said Mwonzora pointing out that MDC-T had already identified ten of the issues.

According to Mwonzora, the ten issues needing address include poverty, unemployment, corruption, non implementation of the Constitution, economic collapse, poor service delivery, poor health facilities among others.

The celebrations are a party annual event.

This year’s event comes in the wake of an MDC-T split with some disgruntled members grouping under a splitter group, MDC-T Renewal Team, led by party secretary general, Tendai Biti.

It also comes a month ahead of the MDC-T elective congress set for October, 2014.

Jacob Mafume, MDC-T Renewal Team spokesperson, said they will be celebrating the anniversary in Bulawayo on September 19, 2014.

Mafume said though there will be nothing much to celebrate given the ‘entrenched dictatorship’ worrying the nation; it would be worth noting that the struggle for democracy would eventually bear fruit.

“There won’t be any feasting at our celebrations as we would rather donate whatever funds raised to the needy,” said Mafume.
