MDC-T security officer arrested

Police have arrested MDC-T Mashonaland East Provincial security officer, William Makonese, for allegedly failing to attend a political violence court case in Murewa as a complainant.

Makonese who was being hunted down by the Police Law and Order section after being issued with a warrant of arrest some three months ago was picked up at the Marondera based party offices this morning.

He is being questioned at the Marondera Police Law and Order section.

Police recently told The Zimbabwean that they wanted Makonese for questioning and would lock him up for failing to surrender himself to the law enforcement agents.

Makonese reported violence perpetrated at the MDC-T offices in Marondera on July 15, by identified Zanu (PF) youths among them Chengetanai Bwanali, but no arrests were made.

This was despite a case docket RRB1536785 being opened against the suspects.

Makonese is understood to have insisted that the case be tried in Marondera where he reported the case but his request was not heeded.

Recently, Makonese was reportedly quizzed by the dreaded Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) agents over his identity, workplace and home area.
