Incoming PSL coaches - Moses “Razor wire” Chunga, Luke “Vahombe” Masomere and Jairos Tapera, will this weekend have to hit the ground running, when they guide their charges in search of first full sets of points.

Chunga joined Mutare-based army side Buffaloes after a controversial stint at Chiredzi, while Masomere, who had been in charge of the same club, resigned to replace outspoken gaffer Philani “Beefy” Ncube at How Mine.

Jairos Tapera, who led FC Platinum into the league in 2010, made a surprise bounce back to the asbestos mining town of Zvishavane where he got a job as director of coaching at Shabanie Mine. The three teams seem to have given the clubs a strict brief: finish the season in a respectable position.

There are several definitions to the assignment but for Tapera, it will be simply to make sure the Chinda Boys avoid relegation. Chunga and Masomere, whose sides are not in the drop zone, should ensure Watungwa watungwa and Chikurupati finish in the top four.

After he saw his side knocked out of the Net One wallet semi-final by Dynamos on a 0-2 score line at Mandava Stadium, Masomere expressed hope his team would meet its target.

“From what I have seen, the players we have are really good. Their performance is impressive. We failed to beat Dynamos but we could have done so if we had utilized the chances we got.

“Going into the league I think we have a chance to sail through and finish on a good position ahead of next season. We will not be gunning for championship and so our task should be simple,” said Masomere.

Tapera whose side made an unbelievable winning bonus offer of $250 per player in the coming 9 games, was also confident he could pull the results for his side.

Chunga, who also attended the Mandava Net One semis driving a simple Toyota Fun Cargo, chose to play his cards close to his chest, saying the end would crown the best.

Masomere’s gold miners will meet ZPC Kariba while the Chinda Boys date Hwange. Chunga’s first match will be against Highlanders.

In other fixtures, Dynamos date Chiredzi while Caps United clash with Buffaloes. Triangle will host FC Platinum with Chicken Inn meeting Chapungu at Ascot Stadium. Black Rhinos and Harare City will complete the round of fixtures.
