Victims of violence perpetrated by Zanu (PF) have vivid memories of Tsvangirai moving into the government Newlands house while thousands of his supporters were homeless. He also parcelled thousands of dollars to his several wives while millions of Zimbabweans went to bed on empty stomachs. Obert Gutu is one man who kept his cool when others were jostling for positions. He is one person not power hungry and would watch while others jump into party positions. He was a Senator but came 2013 primary elections when party members were fighting for positions he kept his distance and was promised the Harare mayor post. 2014 is Gutu’s year as all those who enjoy pulling him down would witness his breakthrough in politics. The standard of education in Zimbabwe is falling mainly because most teachers have two or three ‘O’ level certificates. Teachers’ colleges such as Madziwa Teachers’ College, Seke, Morgen and BUSE offer bridging courses to prospective students without five ‘O’ levels. At a school I teach in Mashonaland Central, eight out of 26 have a single ‘O’ Level certificate. Five of them do not have mathematics. Vana vangapase seyi vachidzidziswa nemadofo.
May I take this opportunity to urge secondary school headmasters to assist technical and vocational subject teachers acquire teaching aids and other necessary tools. We teach technical subjects without enough resources and the ministry expects miracles. Six pupils would share one tool and when examinations come they will be expected to use an army of equipment they never used before. The most affected is Mashonaland Central and Shamva district in particular. -Mudzidzisi wanhasi, Zimbabwe.
