Already, a lot has happened in the game, ushering in a change in the local chess structures.
Following the World Youth Chess Championships held in Durban last month, some people successfully took part in the fide Arbiters seminar and the fide Trainers seminar, where they emerged with new roles.
Admire Mawire and Victor Chimbamu are now National Instructors, while Reuben Salimu is now a fide Instructor. Farirai Gumbe and Tariro Chinaka have graduated to become Development Instructors.
Gimbe Farirai and Chimbamu also took part in the Arbiters seminar and successfully completed the course, pending a fide Presidential board meeting in November, a positive move in the development of Chess in Zimbabwe.
At the youth games, Kudakwashe Zimbowa finished with five points in the Under-14 boys category, followed by Tinashe Mapfumo with 4,5 points in the same category.
Lawrence Tavagwisa finished with five points in the Durban open, which had 25 Grand Masters. The tournament was the first on African soil.
