De-Mbare Rock praised

The exploits of Dynamos centre-half Themba Ndlovu have not gone unnoticed even outside his own team.

ZPC Kariba coach Soul Chaminuka recently joined those in awe of the defender’s performance this season, describing him as one of the best players in his position in the Castle Lager Premiership.

Ndlovu, who joined Dynamos from Buffaloes at the beginning of the season, has been in imperious form at the heart of a defence that has conceded just 12 goals in 25 league matches, the least on the log standings.

Chaminuka, who coached Ndlovu at Buffaloes last season, was not entirely surprised at the manner in which the player has instantly adjusted to life at the country’s best supported club; producing such performances that departed skipper Patson Jaure has been hardly missed.

“I knew he would succeed because he is a solid defender, excellent both on the ground and in the air, despite his limited height,” said Chaminuka of the man who also played for Motor Action.

“He was my captain at Buffaloes because he is also a very good communicator. He reads the game very well and he is disciplined.”

Emphatic, fearless and consistent, Ndlovu has won over the Dynamos faithful, forging a solid partnership with Augustine Mbara which has provided ample protection for goalkeeper Atwell Mukandi.

Yet he was not even a Dynamos regular at the start of the season as Pasuwa opted for Jaure and the taller Sydney Linyama in central defence.

Jaure’s departure for South Africa along with the then first choice goalkeeper George Chigova, coupled with injury to Linyama, might have signalled the onset of a major crisis, but the season is drawing to an end with Dynamos’ defensive reputation still intact, thanks to Ndlovu’s leadership and industry.
