Actress-cum-afro-jazz star Prudence Katomeni Mbofana, Tariro NeGitare and mbira songstress Hope Masike will come together to form an all-ladies group. The idea has received positive feedback from their thousands of twitter followers.
The group will record and perform a live show together. Sevenzo said she was ecstatic to see her brainchild come to life. “It started as a suggestion on twitter, but the response we got from the general public was really warm, we knew we had to make it happen,” she said.
Sevenzo plunged into the limelight after she auditioned for Mnet’s reality TV show, Project Fame in which she was chosen as the sole representative for Zimbabwe. Her debut album earned her a nomination at the Zimbabwe Music Awards and she went on to receive the Best New Artist award at the Celebration Music Awards as well as Nescafe’s Most Inspiring Female of the Year award.
Prudence became a prominent figure when she exhibited her acting prowess in the 1993 multiple-award winning film More Time. Regarded as the queen of jazz, she got big break in musical circles following the release of her hit song BP Yangu Yakwira.
Masike has grown to become an internationally celebrated mbira artist while Tariro NeGitare has been making commendable progress in her promising musical journey. She said she felt privileged to work with the three great female artists who have achieved a lot in their careers and hopes to learn a lot.
