Sources said party president Morgan Tsvangirai had accused top leaders of wanting to grab posts at the national congress and causing division.
Spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora referred questions to organising secretary Nelson Chamisa and his deputy Abednico Bhebhe.
Chamisa’s mobile phone went unanswered while Bhebhe was unavailable on the network.
A reliable source who attended the provincial congress held at Vashindiri Centre last Friday, said “Tsvangirai made it clear that Gweru will no longer be represented at congress because of the failure to re-structure the district organ. He said it would be unconstitutional to have the old executive attending as they no longer have the mandate.”
Gweru Urban MP Sessil Zvidzai was accused of irregularity, but he denied the allegations. Members sympathetic to provincial chair Lilian Acropol, who is eying the national women’s league top post, blocked the poll process from taking place.
