Parents up in arms

Parents with children enrolled at Svingarimwe Secondary School, Zaka, Masvingo, are up in arms against a teacher accused of beating up children.

The history teacher identified as Chikumbo allegedly punished children with an iron fist for indicating that he had come to teach at a wrong time since it was a science period.

Angry parents confronted school authorities for an explanation after the children had related their ordeal. “Our children are being abused and have been left traumatised following the capital punishment. After being beaten they were made to uproot tree stumps before being barred from class for 10 days,” said an angry parent who refused to be identified for fear of reprisals against her child. Mafuva, the headmaster, refused to comment.

“I am not the headmaster at the school but just a teacher,” he said before ending the call.
