Goromonzi played 13 games won 10 drew 1 and lost two games to Mabvuku and St. Ignatius respectively. In the second place Mabvuku High school and Prince Edward were tied on 20. Mabvuku eventually came second with superior board points over Prince Edward who were beaten by half a point to third position.
Last year's defending champions St.Ignatius were relegated to division two after finishing in position 7 just ahead of Churchill who held all the teams at the bottom of the log. Convent Girls High were promoted to division one after coming first in division two followed by Visitation who bounced back to the top flight league after spending this season in the second division.
ZRP High school boarding came first in division 3 and gained promotion to division two while St.Georges will also be promoted together with ZRP after finishing second in division 3. Harare High school will also be promoted to division 3 after coming out second in their division. Schools will be battling it out next year and the divisions are likely to be increased to 7 due to the popularity of the league.
Meanwhile on the international scene Reuben Salimu came fourth in a tourney held in Cape Town South Africa. He finished with 4,5 points out of 7 games .IM Henry Steel of South Africa won the tourney. IM Gillian Bwalya,IM Chitumbo Mwali and IM Stanley Chumfwa were tied on the first position in the Zambia chess open which ended recently.They were tied on 9 points, but Gillian Bwalya won it on butcholtz, followed by Chitumbo then Stanley Chumfwa. Lorita Mwango won the Women section of the Zambia Open.
