In Harare, Tapiwa Zivira, an online reporter employed by Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) which publishes Newday, the Standard, the Independent and Southern Eye, was assaulted with baton sticks and detained for four hours for recording video footage of a police blitz on touts in central Harare.
Zivira reportedly sustained multiple body injuries and he was detained at Harare Central Police Station. Police details deleted his video footage.
Police also arrested a Masvingo based journalist, Wilson Maphosa, who works for Wezhira Community Radio Initiative for taking pictures of houses that the law enforcement details had burnt in the city.
He was arrested around 3pm for “criminal nuisance” and taken to Masvingo Central Police Station where he was detained until 10pm.
He is yet to be formally charged.

Please do not report falsely. Mr Maphosa was formally charged yesterday at CID Masvingo in the presence of two lawyers who facilitated his release. It would be proper that you contact Wilson and at least acknowledge what these lawyers did to assist the journalist.
