So many names have thrown into the fray but Dynamos’ fresh faced right-back Blessing Moyo is set to be one of those, as his performances have largely contributed to his team’s feat of being the best defence, having only conceded 12 goals in 24 matches.
The youthful glamour boy has been in terrific form, relegating to the bench the highly-rated Oscar Machapa and vice-captain Thomas Magorimbo.
When Dynamos outclassed How Mine 2-0 at Mandava to storm the final of the Net-One One Wallet Cup, Moyo volleyed a 21-yards wonder goal that opened the score-sheet for his side, while his combined effort throughout the season has also seen him drafted into the Under 23 national team.
His teammate Ronald “Rooney” Chitiyo has also had a good season, and so has their anchor-man Stephen Alimenda. All these, together with defender Themba “Munhumutema” Ndlovu, may find their names in the soccer stars race.
Highlanders are the most attacking team so far despite the turbulence currently rocking their camp due to a string of poor results. They have scored 32 goals in 24 matches, while log leaders Dynamos have scored 24 times.
Charles Sibanda, currently the top scorer in the league with 12 goals should be certain of being another soccer star. With a few more goals, he may also land the Golden Boot Award.
FC Platinum fans should pin their hopes on Zambian centre back Aaron Katebe and fellow defender, James Marufu. Limited Chikafa has had a superb season at energy side ZPC Kariba and would surely deserve recognition.
Chapungu’s Farai Manase, Caps United’s Gerald Phiri and Tendai Samanja and Godknows Murwira of Shabanie Mine should fancy their chances, as well as slippery Harare City striker Martin Vengesayi.
Bosso’s Munyaradzi Diya and DeMbare’s Artwell Mukandi will undoubtedly battle for the goal-keeper of the year award.
