All of a sudden there are sufficient funds to enable Grace to dart hither and thither like a dragonfly in a state helicopter, fuelled and maintained by taxpayers. The citizenry are also footing the bill for police overtime, ministers’ travel, food for the poor citizens who have been pressed into attending and the ubiquitous bags of maize seed, handed out at every rally. In Gwanda, the ZRP Band provided entertainment, further abuse of state resources. Who is paying for all of this, the nation wants to know?
Concealing his eyes behind a pair of dark glasses, Phillip Chiyangwa, attempted to explain the source of Grace’s campaign funds, muttering something about ‘business executives and well-wishers.’ One wonders why these ‘well-wishers’ were absent when the underprivileged education programme, BEAM, ran out of money.
