The striker, who has been out with an injury since late last season, has starred for the club in the newly-established Super Diski – South Africa’s reserve league.
Last week, the striker, who has also played in England before, told The Zimbabwean after helping his side to a 1-0 win over Maritzburg United that he was back fighting for a starting place in the MTN8 champions, who also top the Absa Premiership with a 100 percent record in seven games.
“I am now fit again and that is a source of delight for me. I am also very happy with the way I am regaining my confidence back in front of goal. The newly-introduced reserved league has been very helpful in shaping up my fitness,” said the striker.
“It has been a bit difficult for me watching from the stands while I was out injured, but I have now I have fully recovered and have begun training with the first team. My priority now is to start commanding a regular place, but I know it will not be an easy task because the side is now star-studded and in top form. I am ready for the healthy challenge though because it makes you put in your best effort.”
Another Zimbabwean player in the Chiefs reserves has been new signing Ovidy Karuru, who is yet to break into the first team.
Although the Zimbabwe national team midfielder impressed immediately upon arrival, coach Stuart Baxter said last week that he still needed to adjust to the game in South Africa, where he is in his first season.
“So far he is doing well and understands that he still need some more meat in the bone to get a starting berth,” said Baxter.
“He is taking it well like a professional. He is not complaining that he is on the bench because he knows why this is happening. He also understands that there are many other players ahead of him fighting for the same position, but he still understands that a little more effort will get him what he wants.”
