Tallie Two, carrying 52 kilogrammes and ridden by Brendon McNaughton, was 0.50 lens ahead of Gentle Brook and finished the 1,600 metre race in 95.80 seconds. Those who correctly predicted that Alyson Wright’s Zimbabwean-bred three year-old would win the race got $6.40 for every dollar placed.
Tallie Two opened betting at a low 6/1, closed at a bit higher 9/1, but that still was not much for the punter as her combination with second placed Gentle Brook could only offer $3.70 in the swingers.
Tallie Two and third-placed Demitasse was at $5.10 for every dollar placed.
However, Gentle Brook and Demitasse offered better at $6.10 for those who combined them in the swingers. The trifectar offered $92.30, while the quartet was at $367.90. It was a case of placing more money on the bets to reap more in the dividends in the process. Gentle Brook who opened at 19/20 and closed at 19/10 was along with Casey’s Dance the favourites for the race. But Casey Dance from the Lisa Harris stable turned out to be the disappointment of the race as she could only manage a fourth placing.
Another disappointment was the heavily favoured mare, Marumbala who on her part finished fifth under the stewardship of Kevin Derere with Olympic Goal just behind. Olympic Goal has not won since the season started with her best placing being a third place finish.
The race which initially had 11 horses accepted, ended up with only eight, following the scratching of Felani, Wisteria Way, Gee I Jane, Eversolucky, and the much talked about Sin Latigo.
Racing will return to the Borrowdale race course on November 2.
