Caf send Morocco ultimatum

The Confederation of African Football have given Morocco up to November 8 to make a decision as to whether they are still willing to host the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations finals or not.

Morocco have asked the continental football body to postpone the competition to 2016 citing the ebola virus as their reasoning for that but Caf have refused to have the tournament postponed.

In fact, there was word that the Moroccan government had decided to completely withdraw from hosting the tournament only for that country’s Football Federation to say that was not true.

A statement from the continental football controlling body says Morocco have up to November 8 to make a decision, failure of which Caf will hold an executive meeting on November 11 to decide on their next hosts.

Already South Africa have been placed on standby as potential hosts of the tournament while Ghana and Egypt are also said to have expressed an interest. The tournament has been fixture to start on January 17.

Whatever happens the tournament will not have an effect on Zimbabwe as the Warriors were eliminated from the tournament long before the real qualification battle had begun.

The Warriors were knocked out 3-2 on aggregate by Tanzania who also went on to be knocked out of the tournament by Mozambique.

Zimbabwe are bidding to host the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations finals.

Eleven other countries have also placed their bids to host the competition.
