Driving examiners are allegedly demanding bribes from aspiring drivers with some pocketing as much as $2,000 a day.
Examiners acting in conjunction with driving schools are allegedly demanding $150 a class four driver's license, while those aspiring to be class two drivers have to fork out $350.
The association is demanding that driving examiners be transferred or fired for being linked to corrupt activities.
"We are not happy with the way examiners are conducting their business in Masvingo. We also note that some of them now operate driving schools, resulting in serious conflict of interest to the effective and efficient functioning of the VID,” says the petition.
Permanent secretary Munodawafa confirmed having received complaints from driving schools around the country and said investigations had begun. Two years ago the ministry dismissed about 10 driving examiners in Masvingo province alone amid reports of corruption and bribery.
About 250 VID officers countrywide were later transferred by then minister of Transport and Communication Nicholas Goche after being linked to corrupt activities.
