I have not retired: Mtizwa

Former Zimbabwe national team defensive midfielder Lionel Mtizwa has not lost hope of getting his redundant soccer career back on track.

The linkman – plucked off Pretoria University at the end of a loan deal and eventually dumped by sister club Mamelodi Sundowns early this season, has been on the side lines since the beginning of the current campaign.

He told The Zimbabwean early this week that he was still searching for a new club that would appreciate his talent and get his career back on the spotlight.

The former Caps United player, who had a good season while on loan at the AmaTuks last season, has however put his focus on getting a substantive club next season.

“I haven’t retired yet from the beautiful game as I believe I still have few years to offer in the game, but I would not say I am getting a permanent deal anytime this season,” said the former Zimbabwean international, who many believe was badly-treated by Sundowns, who should have let him continue playing for their struggling cross-town rivals, who appreciated and valued him.

“At the moment I’m still training on my own and although I am ready to play again, I believe it will take me some bit of time to get my fitness level back to warrant a permanent move.”

He expressed the pain he felt when watching from the stands, despite the immense talent he has.

“It pains me, but I’m prepared to make everything right and get back to my old self. My advantage is that I have a valid permit and as a free agent, I can easily get a move in the next transfer window while waiting for something permanent for next season.”
