Nyadombo defiant

Zimbabwe national team defensive rock Carlington Nyadombo this week waived a defiant fist in the face of adversity when he vowed that his Absa Premiership side would not be relegated.

Amazulu, where Nyadombo is captain, began the season on the back foot and were rooted at the bottom of the log with four points in 10 matches. However, the Zimbabwean defender said this week that he and his team-mates were not pressing any panic batons yet, as they still had 20 more matches to play and salvage their season.

But he admitted he was worried about the series of defeats the Wilfred Mugeyi-coached side had gone through, following their latest 2-1 loss at the hands of runaway log leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

“We have changed many combinations and our caretaker coach brought in different tactics recently, but all that has so far been in vain,” said Nyadombo, who recently took the captain’s armband from countryman Tapuwa Kapini.

“We have played so well – we have just been unlucky, especially in front of goal. So we don’t need a lot of work to make things go our way. We just need to be patient while continuing to work hard on those things we can control. “We haven’t thrown in the towel yet. We will not so so at any point in this race and we still have time to make things happen the way we want them to. With the way we are playing, it is still too early for anyone to start talking about relegation. I know we will bounce back soon,” he said.

Nyadombo, who has been with the Durban-based side for more than three seasons, is one of those players who can make it happen for Amazulu.
