The Zimbabwe Under-23 captain joined Makepekepe from Triangle at the start of last season and has since established himself as the Castle Premiership’s most exciting left-back.
Now Mangwiro is foreseeing an even brighter future for the 20-year-old, whose energy and offensive impetus down the left channel have been some of the few highlights of an otherwise lukewarm campaign for Makepekepe.
“He is a very talented player and he has been one of our top performers this season. If he can remain focussed, I have no doubt that he will scale greater heights. He is a hard-working and reliable defender who is also very useful going forward,” Mangwiro told The Zimbabwean recently.
The former Young Warriors coach said the Pfumbidzai managed to recover swiftly at the start of the campaign, after he was initially unsettled by some reported interest from rival premiership clubs.
“He had his heard turned early in the season and this appeared to affect his focus. But we talked to him and advised him to concentrate solely on his football.
“Of-cause this may not always be possible given our situation at Caps but he has done his best to avoid being destructed by events off the field and the results have been evident on the pitch,” he added.
Pfumbidzai was recently named captain of the new crop of Under-23 players and Mangwiro is excited at the prospect of his starlet linking up other promising names like Nqobizitha Masuku, Rodwell Mhlanga, Praise Tonha, Walter Musona, and Kelvin Moyo.
Netherlands-based Marvellous Nakamba and Mamelodi Sundowns winger Kuda Mahachi are also part of the cast and Mangwiro foresees a great team shaping up.
“We have some exciting talent this time around and I am sure the coaches will be able to some with a very good team,” he said.
