When announcing the new Zimbabwean Special Dispensation Permit (ZSP) a few months ago, Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba said all DZP permits would expire on December 31, leaving many fearing that they would not be able to make the great trek home for the festive season.
But Gigaba has clarified that the ZSP applicants would be able to go home and return, even between the expiry of the DZP and issuance of the ZSP.
"During the festive season, Zimbabweans qualifying for this process will be able to travel home and return to South Africa without any challenges. Their applications will be available to us electronically, enabling us to verify whether they have been captured properly," said Gigaba, when he visited one of the Visa Facilitation Centres in Cape Town recently.
Meanwhile, the DHA announced this week that 164,251 online applications had been submitted on November 18, while 156,302 appointments had been booked. The department expected the about 249,000 Zimbabweans who previously qualified for the DZP to come forward for the ZSP process.
