The three year old which was piloted by Karl Zechner gave out a hefty $14.00 for every dollar placed to punters who predicted that the horse would take the title. Young Antwun had opened betting at 12/1, but closed at 20/1 for punters to celebrate.
In the swingers Young Antwun along with second placed Atso’s Scheme paid out $8.30 and $9.50 in the combination with third placed Will Pays. But Atso’s Scheme and Will Pays were a bit lower offering only $3.20.
Young Antwun who won the race by half a length over Atso’s Scheme and finished the event in 70.37 seconds took home $8 400 which was reserved for the winning horse.
Second placed Atso’s Scheme, who was the overwhelming favourite, won $2,800. Atso’s Scheme was 4/1 on the opening of betting before closing at 7/1.
There were also financial rewards for Will Pays who took home $1,750 and fourth-placed Snow Call, who received $1,050. The race which had total stakes money of $14,000 offered the highest stake money so far in the season at Borrowdale race course.
The disappointment of the race though was Picalilly who opened betting at 5/2 and closed at 7/1 but could only manage to finish sixth in a race that attracted only 10 horses.
Gee I Jane from the Corne Spies yard, saddled by Francois Naude, was the last in the race following hard on the heels of another of Spies’ six fieldings, Queen Tara, ridden by Brendon McNaughton.
The Jacaranda Free Handicap was for three-year old horses only. Racing returns to Borrowdale on November 16.
