The Kariba-based side only need to beat Caps United at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday to win the title. ZESA spokesperson, Fullard Gwasira, said they were a performance-based company and were happy with the way ZPC Kariba had performed thus far.
Gwasira said they had no doubts that ZPC Kariba would clinch the title, adding that ZESA were prepared to give the team all the support it would need both on the domestic scene and internationally.
“We are happy with what ZPC have done. If they win the title, which we believe they will, we are committed to sponsoring them when they represent Zimbabwe in Africa,” said Gwasira.
Although many Zimbabwean teams have been struggling to adequately finance themselves in Pan African football, observers have pointed out that this could not the case for ZPC Kariba as ZESA have the financial muscle to guarantee them success in Africa.
Dynamos have already hinted on a lack of adequate finances to participate in Africa should they get the ticket to represent Zimbabwe in the Caf Champions League.
With one game left before the season comes to an end, ZPC Kariba are on 56 points, two clear of Dynamos who are on 54. On the same day ZPC Kariba play Caps United, across town at Rufaro Stadium Dynamos will face How Mine.
ZPC Kariba put themselves in an advantage position after a memorable 2-1 win over DeMbare at the National Sports Stadium last Sunday. For the record, ZPC Kariba are the only team to have beaten Dynamos both home and away.
The first match also at the National Sports Stadium ended 1-0 in favour of the team that was promoted into the Premiership at the end of the 2013 Division One season.
