The Zvishavane born boxer revealed that the minister of Youth and Sport, Chishimba Kambwili, had offered him Zambian citizenship.
“It is not about money. It is about recognition. Just to acknowledge that I am doing something for the country. In Zimbabwe, when I come back home after a fight, there are only my family members and one or two members of the boxing board to welcome me back home,” said Manyuchi.
Although he ruled out taking up Zambian citizenship, saying his heart was in Zimbabwe, the Africa champion said he preferred fighting in Zambia where he is guaranteed maximum support.
Manyuchi who is the son of former Zimbabwe champion, Otis, has not fought any of his international fights in Zimbabwe. He has fought in Burkina Faso, Namibia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi, South Africa, and Zambia.
He is the reigning Africa Boxing Union title holder after winning the championship last year at the expense of Patrice Toke of Burkina Faso. He is also the WBC International champion. He defended the title last week after a systematically knocking out Colombia’s Davis Caseres Navara in the third round, and is ranked 23rd in the world.
Manyuchi is now back home after that WBC title defence.
