Barker, formerly the coach of Pretoria University, was appointed AmaZulu head coach two weeks ago, to try and revive the fortunes of the club, which is reeling under severe relegation pressure. When he appointed his assistants last week, the new coach left out the Zimbabwean, who was caretaker coach when he arrived, despite assurances from the club that Mugeyi would be part of the new technical planners.
Mugeyi, whose fate now lies in the benevolence of the club’s management, told The Zimbabwean early this week that he was still waiting for word on his future.
“I don’t have any position attached to me right now but the management told me that they are still deciding which department they can assign me to,” said the former Warriors striker. “I still love the team and I believe things can still turn around for the better for us. Things never worked for me and the club for the short period I was caretaker coach. I had hoped for the best and I put in the effort we needed to try and move the club from the relegation zone, but it was still tough.”
The former Black Aces marksman said that his disadvantage was the series of injuries to some of his key players, as he only had 18 players fit during the four games he was in charge, while there was also a lack of depth in the team.
