Super Trouper proves a point

Age is no barrier to success in horse racing. That is the lesson that seven-year-old Super Trouper gave to his 10 rivals as he won the 2014 Zimbabwe Challenge, the third leg of the Sprinter Series at Borrowdale race course.

The oldest horse in the race, Super Trouper was a very close 0.05 lens winner over hot favourite Thriller in Manila and further 0.10 lens over Arula Borealis in one of the closest finishes ever seen at this course.

Gentle Brook was way behind in fourth place with the disappointment of the race being the much heralded Atso’s Scheme ridden by Fannie Chambers and finished in last position.

The combinations of Super Trouper received $5 400 for winning the Challenge while Thriller in Manila took home $1 800 with Arula Borealis being rewarded with $1 125. For his effort, Gentle Brook did not go unnoticed as the five year old mare got $675.

Super Trouper was the only winner from the Ghokan Terzi yard in the seven races with the day belonging to champion trainer Lisa Harris with three winners – Menacing in race three, Flintsones in race four and Print the Pounds in race five.

Super Trouper which was selling at 6/1 at the close of betting offered $6.10 for a totalisator win. In the swingers she was at $5.20 for every dollar placed with Thriller in Manila, but offered more with Arula Borealis at $13.20.

Thriller in Manila and Arula Borealis was at $5.40. The Trifectar for the first three horses home was at $158.30 while the quartet offered $1 165.70.
