Since the formation of the MDC in 1999, Zanu (PF) has performed dismally in Harare which has become one of the opposition party’s strongholds.
In his speech at the official opening day of the congress yesterday, Zanu (PF) acting provincial Chairman for Harare Province, Goodwills Masimirembwa blamed Mujuru loyalists for having worked against the interests of the party hence the poor showing in last year’s elections.
Masimirembwa said it was regrettable that Zanu (PF) performed well in other areas but was let down in Harare province. He blamed Mujuru loyalists in Harare for working towards ensuring that President Robert Mugabe is removed from power.
“Unfortunately and regrettably, Harare province failed to make a fair contribution to that election victory because it was the citadel of machinations to unlawfully unseat you from power. Henceforth, the province will focus on uniting structures to ensure a clean sweep in 2018,” said Masimirembwa.
Midzi was expelled from the position of provincial Chairperson after he was accused of fanning factionalism in Harare. He was one of the absentees at the official opening of the Zanu (PF) congress.
Masimirembwa, in typical bootlicking style, congratulated Mugabe for assuming chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) adding that Mugabe was supposed to rule until he dies.
“Your Excellency, we are fully behind your rule and we are saying you should rule as long as you are fit to do so. Pamberi naVaMugabe. Kufa Vachitonga. (Forward with President Mugabe. Let him rule until he dies,” said Masimirembwa.
Masimirembwa at one time came under fire from Mugabe for corruption.
